If you’ve already honed your skiing skills and the adrenaline in your blood demands more challenging slopes, take a look at the Swiss ski resort of Verbier. The local slopes delight professionals from all over the world, and every year the best freeriders from all over the world come here to compete in speed and agility.

The winter season in Verbier starts with the first autumn snow and lasts until April. The resort’s altitude ranges from 1500 to 3300 m above sea level on a mountain plateau. The terrain has defined the resort as an ideal place for all types of winter sports. There are excellent opportunities for snowboarding and moguls, as well as ski safaris across untouched plains.

The climate in Verbier is ideal for a winter vacation – the most “severe” temperatures can occur in January (-6 C), but the favorite mark on the thermometer is zero. (By the way, the mountain coolness is preserved here in the summer, and the air warms up only to +15C).

Verbier is part of the “Four Valleys” region, the largest ski center in Europe. It also includes the resorts of Veysonnaz, Thyon and Nendaz, which are connected by a ski pass for lifts and a common ski area. So you will have enough tracks for the whole vacation. The total length of the “Four Valleys” trails is 410 km, the longest is 13 km. Verbier has 36 lifts, and throughout the “Four Valleys” there are 100 lifts, so you will not encounter queues.

Entertainment in Verbier

Verbier was created for active recreation, but that doesn’t mean that only young people vacation here. Families will also find plenty to do here. The resort has a children’s amusement park, a children’s ski school, a children’s lift, and even a kindergarten for children from three months to 7 years old. And for adults, the choice of winter entertainment is simply enormous. Especially for snowboarders, there is an excellent park “1936 Neipark” in Verbier. For those who do not like groomed slopes, there are boundless expanses untouched by machinery (don’t worry about safety – these areas are also under control). Also, each hotel in Verbier has fitness centers, swimming pools, saunas, curling, and an ice rink. The Esserts entertainment park offers snow tubing, snow karting, and snow cross.

It is not customary to sleep at night in Verbier; local discos are open until 4 am. But connoisseurs of beauty advise getting enough sleep for a few nights and meeting the early morning on the summit of Mont Fort, the highest peak in Verbier (3300m). The crimson dawn over the snowy peaks will energize you for the whole day. But don’t get too enthusiastic if you haven’t yet mastered the snowy elements – the descents in Mont Fort on snowboards are not safe even for professionals. The trails from the summit to the Le Châble valley (elevation difference of 2530m) and Mont Gelé (3023m) are marked black and are recommended only with guides. The famous Tortin, with sharp stones protruding from under the snow, is also one of the most difficult trails.

Shopping (Not in Verbier)

Shopping in Verbier is a bit tricky. Therefore, for those who love discounts and purchases, we recommend staying in Milan for a couple of days on your way home to go shopping. And then fly out of one of Milan’s airports – Malpensa or Bergamo.

Slopes in Verbier

For those who are not yet confident in their skills, the slopes in the Savoleyres, Les Ruinettes, Lac-de-Vaux areas (average altitude difference of 2300m) are suitable, and for calm skiers, Bruson is suitable – only 1080m.

The smoothest and easiest slopes are in La Tzoumaz and Thyon. It must be said that despite Verbier’s attractiveness for professionals, there is also plenty of space for beginners here.

The first ski school opened in Verbier in 1933, today there are about ten of them, offering lessons especially for ladies, in groups and individual lessons. You can also use the services of mountain guides.

If you still have time to see the sights after your active vacation, you should visit the Glass Museum, the Alpine Museum, the 13th-century castle, as well as the 17th-century forge, and be sure to visit the Church of All Saints, where there is a unique organ. However, the ski festivals are of greater interest. At the end of January, Verbier hosts the 24 Hours of Freeride festival, and in the last week of January, the Adrenaline ski school holds off-piste competitions, and in mid-March, freeride aces come to Verbier to show their skills and talent against the backdrop of the perfect Alpine mountains.
